Ice Cream? From a TRUCK?!

Posted by Picasa

I surrendered to the power of the sweet little music notes and gave Andra her first ice cream truck experience this weekend! It was quite the internal debate in my head before I gave in...

I heard him coming from a long way off. Our ice cream truck is a little unique, because it's driven by a cute Indian man--headress and all--and his truck says "Babbu Ice Cream." It always makes me and Dave laugh. He's been driving through our neighborhood for weeks now, and Andra and I have just waved as he drives by playing his music. For all Andra knew, it was just a funny little truck that drives by playing music. I knew once she realized the musical truck ALSO delivers ice cream, there would be no turning back. She's old enough now to totally understand cause and effect.

Well, Sunday afternoon, I heard his music and knew he was on his way to our street. And so began the internal debate...it was an hour before dinner time, ice cream would surely spoil her dinner. There would be other perfectly sunny, warm days when he would drive by, right? And I'd be creating a monster...from her first ice cream truck purchase forward she would know... "that truck gives me ice cream!" So he drove by, and we waved like usual. But then...the little boy 2 houses down asked him to stop and wait while he went inside to get money. So I caved. It must be destiny! :) I decided to get Andra some ice cream, and ran in to get my money too!

We chose an orange sherbert push up pop, because I remembered loving them in my childhood. And maybe there's some tiny trace of fruit in there? We sat on the front lawn and ate her push up pop, with more of it landing in her lap than in her mouth. But it didn't matter...we had fun sharing one of the simple pleasures of childhood. She had the funniest expression on her face too...she kept looking at the truck, completely puzzled. It was as if she was thinking, "Why on earth did the man in that truck give me ice cream??" But she gobbled it up, grinning ear to ear...and I think my heart melted as fast as her Scooby Doo sherbert push-up pop.

Animal Sounds

Andra's been perfecting her animal sounds, so I thought we'd share them with you. They're a little quiet, so you might have to turn up your volume. You'll get to hear me practice all my animal sounds too. :) I'm especially proud of my monkey sound, thanks to countless episodes of Curious George.

What a Weekend!

This post is exactly a week late. Sorry about that. :) We've been too busy playing outside to sit down at our computer. But we had such a fun Easter weekend, I wanted to share some of the pictures!

This year, Andra completely understood the concept of an Easter egg hunt...thanks to a Dora egg hunt video she's a dedicated fan of. So on Saturday morning, we took our well-trained egg hunter to her Grandma and Grandpa V.'s church for an easter egg hunt, which Andra loved! They had a Bible lesson too, which was a little over her head, but in the coming years I hope she understands and I have enough wisdom to teach her the true meaning of Easter. Here she is hunting her (not so hidden) eggs!

Easter weekend also happened to fall on my mom's birthday this year...the big 6-0! I had the family over for dinner...AND allowed everyone to eat on my "new" dining room table for the first time ever. I'm ashamed to say we've had this gorgeous table for over two years, and I had yet to serve a meal on it. :) The best part of the evening was watching the kids play together. They're such a hoot! Here's a great pic of the grandkids...except that Andra didn't smile in this one. It's a little hard to get all three of them smiling at once, but it wasn't for lack of effort!
Here's Andra saying "yay!" after we sang Happy Birthday to her Grandma!

Chick Pics

We had a whirlwind weekend this Easter, so I'm just now getting around to posting these photos...which I INTENDED to post many days ago! Andra had a "photo shoot" with some live baby chicks and ducklings, which was quite an entertaining experience! I was curious how she'd react to them, but she seemed to love playing with them. She wasn't very happy when they tried to waddle up her dress, but other than that, they had a good time together...and we got a few really cute shots. Enjoy!
(Please note: no chicks or ducklings were harmed during the capturing of these pictures. Although I'm sure a few were slightly startled when a little blonde girl picked them up by their necks. All are healthy and happy! I promise)

I told her to tickle the chick, so here she is doing just that!
